CHISAGO COUNTY JUSTICE CENTER STUDY
CENTER CITY, MN
Klein McCarthy Architects assisted Chisago County in the master planning of their Government Services facilities. Several options were explored including adding a 277 bed jail and expanding the LEC on to the existing Government Services building located on a small peninsula within downtown Center City. The feasibility of each option was evaluated based on factors including land availability, cost of the land, and parking requirements.
Based on all these factors, it was determined that the Jail and Law Enforcement Center should be located on a remote site on the eastern edge of Center City. The remote site master plan included adjacent developed commercial properties, the potential for a future courts facility addition, and area for future county services buildings to complete the campus. The downtown Government Services building was planned to remain for Courts and Government Services functions without external building expansion.
