Klein McCarthy provided full design services for the Carlton County Justice Center. Built on existing county owned land which previously served as a quarry, the new facility includes a 96 bed Jail with the ability to escort directly to Court through the Jail. The Sheriff’s Office can enter the Jail directly through the Jail Administration area for additional support and safety.
The new Jail uses modular steel cells, a rear chase design for easy maintenance, and a central control with direct supervision of all Female dayrooms to increase efficiency and reduce the number of staff required per shift. The facility provides multiple inmate classifications including a special health unit and Regional Female Offender Program with additional program spaces to be shared by male and female inmates. The entire facility utilizes energy efficient solutions, such as increased insulation thickness at exterior walls, and a geo-thermal system to lower the energy costs of the building year-round.
Working closely with the construction manager, multiple bid packs were issued in throughout 2022 to procure materials and subcontractors so construction can start in August 2022 and a completion date of August 2024.
