In a growing area of Western North Dakota, Divide County had outgrown their historic courthouse and had a need to expand various county departments including court services, law enforcement, county board room, social services and county health. The new addition (located to the north of the existing Courthouse) links to the courthouse on all three levels and includes new vertical circulation and much needed expansion of the restroom facilities for the county complex.
As a connection to a historically registered building, materials and massing were handled sensitively to ensure the Courthouse retains its prominence at the end of Main Street and that the new addition closely harmonizes with the historic structure.
