Klein McCarthy Architects was commissioned by Mercer County to design an expansion to their existing Courthouse and Jail. The County had outgrown their 1973 Courthouse and 1980 Jail but was committed to a judicial center at the current location. Klein McCarthy Architects analyzed security, circulation, parking and exiting requirements and proposed a cohesive expansion plan.
The building addition significantly expands courts with a new jury courtroom, court administration space, jury deliberation and other courts support areas. The county jail expands by 28 beds and receives new medical and food service spaces. Law enforcement is reconfigured to better accommodate staff needs. Overall building circulation was improved with a new central public entry point.
