The County selected their downtown site, adjacent the existing jail and Joint Law Enforcement Center, for their new 80-bed jail. The new jail connects to the existing inmate transport tunnel leading to the Courthouse. The existing law enforcement building renovations provide accessible public restrooms, public video visitation as well as a dispatch center which serves as master control to the jail.
The jail includes dedicated mental health housing with normalized cell furnishings, multi-purpose rooms for counseling and a programs area with recreation and two classrooms. The intake and release area includes a separate three cell housing unit, work release processing and locker rooms, scanning area and decontamination accommodations.
The project was phased to construct the jail prior to renovations in the law enforcement building.
