Klein McCarthy Architects assisted the Douglas County Board and Sheriff's Office in planning, programming and design for the renovation and expansion of many of their County government facilities. The County's need for a new jail, which was constructed on the existing Public Works site, and included the renovation of an existing county building, created available space within the Courthouse. This allowed for the design and expansion of the current courts wing and the addition of a new secure courts holding area once jail construction was complete.
During the expansion of the courthouse with the courts holding addition, design and construction began on an extensive renovation/remodel of the existing County Service Center located nearby to accommodate a new Law Enforcement Center and upgrade selected staff areas throughout the existing building. As there were many different projects under construction at one time in Douglas County, the Klein McCarthy team organized the design and construction into phases to allow the county to maintain full operations without closures or limitations to public access.
